In commutative algebra, one measures
algebraic dependency by the Jacobian,
in noncommutative case the commutator.
In this talk we will explore the extreme similarities
between the Jacobian and the commutator, and the new approaches
stimulated by these similarities to attack the famous open problems
about automorphisms in both commutative and noncommutative cases.
The talk is accessible to graduate students and advanced
undergraduate students, as no specific background is needed.
