 In this talk I shall announce our initial results on nowcasting 
  
 rotating tropical storms (such as hurricane and typhoon) based on 
  
 remotely sensed images. In our approach, we first obtain certain 
  
 global properties of given images based on a new designed active 
  
 contour method. From these global properties, we derive the angle of 
  
 motion as well as the center of motion for a rigid motion of given 
  
 object at a given time. These angles and centers are then used for 
  
 nowcasting the next movement of the object.
