In this talk, we discuss the popular diffuse interface approach to model various interfacial phenomena in nature.
We give a couple of common examples and present a general mathematical framework for developing more
complex diffuse interface models in very natural manner. We then describe applications to studies of critical
nucleation in materials science and vesicle membrane deformation in biology. We also consider how to retrieve
interesting statistics from the diffuse interface simulations as an example of intelligent computing.
