Abstract:
This talk is concerned with methods for computing within a group of Lie type represented as an algebraic group given by a root datum and a field. The algorithms have been implemented in the Magma computer algebra system. This extends earlier work of Haller (for unipotent elements) and Riebeck (in characteristic $2$).
